  Horizons is terrible. When I was a kid I had a Horizons checking account. I used the ATM at the gas station I was working at to simply my balance to make sure a payment for a bill was cleared. I only had around a dollar in the account left, and Horizons (NOT the ATM) charged me a 2.50 fee just for checking the balance. Back then a fee like that was unheard of, you were only charged for making a transaction and most banks themselves didn't even take a fee. Unfortunately I still had 4 days until my next paycheck and I was assessed an overdraft fee. I pleaded with them when they called every day to reevaluate the fee based on the circumstances, and they didn't. So I decided that I would just close the account after I pay the fee as soon as as my weekly paycheck comes; and indeed that's what I did. I want to the Endicott branch, brought the account to zero and closed the account. I didn't make a fus, I just closed it. Then I went to another bank to open an account and found out that Horizons reported me to something called "Chex Systems" and no one would give me a checking account! I tried to get removed from the list after explaining the situation and was told the only people who could remove me were Horizons and they refused. I owed them $26 for 4 days because only because I overdrafted from one of their fees..and they reported me. Finally, thank God, I went to the M&T Bank on Hooper road and the branch manager just happened to be there as I made the case to yet another banker while trying to open an account, and she overrode it and set me up. That was 16 years ago and I've never once overdrafted with them, and they are now enjoying the interest from being the holder of my mortgage.
  I might STILL be in Chex Systems database for all I know, all because I made the mistake of using Horizons FCU!
